Reels
Spincast: Spincast reels are very good starter reels, they have good power and a good one can last you for years. I use a under spin reel to jig fish, but many people use spincast reels for live bait fishing. There are losts of brands to choose from, also many sizes to choose from.

Spinning Reels: These reels work well when crappie fishing, with these high speed reels, getting a big crappie out of heavy cover can happen easier with a spinning reel. To me this is the best reel for crappie fishing...

Bait Casting Reels: A great reel for live bait fishing, and more power than any other reel on the market. Many have made the change to bait casters when slow trolling, and some for jig fishing, but casting a jig with a bait caster is something I would pay to see. This is a very good reel if used in the right way.

Rods
Ultra Lite: Nice open water rod, but not strong enough if cover is around.

Lite: A good rod for smaller crappie, but lacks great hook setting power.

Med/Lite: Great jigging rod, very good hook set power. Very good rod.

Medium: Great tip for live bait fishing, and great hook set power.
