Q: I'm new to crappie fishing can you tell me the best month to catch crappie during the spawn?
A: It's not so much the month but the water temp but late February thru early May you can find crappie shallow. First you must understand that crappie start to move to their pre-spawn areas during late winter and stage in that area until the shallow water is to their liking. The key temp. for spawning is about 60 for black crappie and 65 for white crappie. Understand that creeks are not the only places crappie spawn, shallow ares with deep water near by can hold alot of spawners. The spawn can be hit and miss, just don't give up and watch the water temp......

Q: Going to buy a new Fishfinder. Which brand should I buy?
A: There are 4 major brands on the market today. Humminbird, Lowrance/Eagle, Garmin and Raymarine. I rank them in this order, Garmin gets the lowest rank, next up is Humminbird, yes they have the side view, but the fishfinder has not changed, the detail on bottom and fish is ok but it could be alot better. The number 2 unit is Lowrance and the lower priced Eagle, very good detail and clear as a bell, you know fish on this graph when you see them. Number 1 is Raymarine, before I sold my boat this was the unit I craved and the new models are even better, great HD detail, fish are easy to see, best unit hands down, if you don't think so, check out Lowrance's new line for 09, it's a Raymarine clone. Q: What is the best jig type? Tube or Feather?
A: Good question, I use a hand tied jig but tube jigs work great and cost alot less. Use what works for you, they both work well.....
